Animal Crossing, called Dobutsu no Mori (Animal Forest) in Japan, is a series of community simulation video games by Nintendo.
The released games are:
- Dobutsu no Mori (April 14, 2001), Nintendo 64. Only released in Japan.
- Dobutsu no Mori+ (December 14, 2001), GameCube. Updated version of Dobutsu no Mori, only released in Japan.
- Animal Crossing (September 15, 2002), GameCube. Version of Dobutsu no Mori+ adapted specifically for the western market. It was later released in Japan as Dobutsu no Mori e+ with some minor changes (though some consider it a seaparate, third update).
- Dobutsu no Mori+ (December 14, 2001), GameCube. Updated version of Dobutsu no Mori, only released in Japan.
- Animal Crossing: Wild World (November 23, 2005), Nintendo DS. Known in Japan as Oideyo Dobutsu no Mori (Come to Animal Forest). Also released in 2015 for Wii U.
- Animal Crossing: City Folk (November 16, 2008), Wii. Called Machi e iko yo: Dobutsu no mori (Animal Forest: Let's Go to the City) in Japan, and Animal Forest: Let's Go to the City in Europe.
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf (November 8, 2012), Nintendo 3DS. Called obidase Dobutsu no Mori (Animal Forest: Jump Out) in Japan.
- Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (July 30, 2015), Nintendo 3DS. A minor game in the series, centered around home design. A series of 304 amiibo cards was also announced, consisting in three series of 100 cards each, plus 4 special cards.
- Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival (November 13, 2015), Wii U. A minor entry in the series, it's a party game. Also a series of 16 amiibo figures was released.
Also two applications were released for DSiWare: Animal Crossing Calculator, released on February 25, 2009, and Animal Crossing Clock, released on April 1, 2009.
A mobile game is also set for a March 2017 release.
Additionally, a movie based on the games titled Gekijoban Dōbutsu no Mori (Animal Forest: The Movie) was released in theaters in Japan on December 16, 2006.
