NESR Remix1 02
  • Stage 2 (10 Stars): Set in Stage 25m of Donkey Kong, the screen is completely black except for Mario's surroundings, and the objetive is to reach the top of the stage.
NESR Remix1 05
  • Stage 5 (40 Stars): Set in Stage 3 of Donkey Kong Jr., the objective is to reach the top, but platforms and vines disappear every 6 seconds, and stay invisible for 3 seconds.
NESR Remix1 14
  • Stage 14 (85 Stars): Set in Stage 25m of Donkey Kong, the screen is completely mirrored and the objective is to reach the top. The player's character is initially highlighted by a circle. Additionally, while not affecting the gameplay, Pauline is replaced by Mario and the player controls Luigi (actually a palette swap of Mario), his brother from the Mario series, creating an undirect link with it. The platforms also are green rather than red to reflect Luigi's color in contrast to Mario.
NESR Remix1 17-1
  • Stage 17 (105 Stars): Divided in two sections, both set in Stage 75m of Donkey Kong, the screen is completely mirrored and like in Stage 14, the player controls Luigi and must save Mario and the platforms also are green. The objective in the first section is to reach the top, while in the second one Luigi starts on top and the objective is to reach the start point, highlighted by a circle.
NESR Remix1 25-5
  • Stage 25 (150 Stars): Divided in 6 sections, the fifth one is set in Stage 25m of Donkey Kong, the screen is completely black except for Mario's surroundings, and the objetive is to jump over 3 barrels. The other sections are based on Balloon Fight, Super Mario Bros. and Excitebike.

Remix II[]

"Remix II" includes 6 challenges based on Donkey Kong games, each one unlocked by obtaining a specific amount of stars:

NESR Remix2 01-2
NESR Remix2 02
  • Stage 2 (155 Stars): Set in Stage 1 of Donkey Kong Jr. the screen is completely black except for Donkey Kong Jr.'s surroundings, and the objective is to reach the top.
NESR Remix2 11
  • Stage 11 (210 Stars): Set in Stage 25m of Donkey Kong, the objective is to reach the top, but Springs from Stage 75m constantly fall down serving as extra obstacles. They stop falling as the player reaches the top floor.
NESR Remix2 13-1
  • Stage 13 (230 Stars): Divided in 4 sections, the first one is set in Stage 25m from Donkey Kong. As it starts, Mario is standing on the third floor below Donkey Kong while holding the hammer and the objective is to break a falling barrel. The screen also zooms in to Mario. Time limit: 15s. The other three sections are based on Super Mario Bros. and Ice Climber.
NESR Remix2 20-2
  • Stage 20 (265 Stars): Divided in 2 sections, the first one is based on The Legend of Zelda (see here for details), while the second one is Stage 100m of Donkey Kong played as Link and the objective is to reach the top. Just like in Stage 1, the gameplay is the same as the original game, only the player can't jump. This is again an undirect link between the Donkey Kong and the Zelda series. After winning it, the ending animation of Donkey Kong even plays with Link instead of Mario.
  • Stage 25 (300 Stars): Divided in 8 sections, two of them are from Donkey Kong games, while the other are from Ice Climber, Balloon Fight and Mario games:
    • Stage 25-1: set in Stage 2 of Donkey Kong Jr., and the objective is to reach the moving platform by jumping on the spring. The platform and the spring are initially highlighted by a circle. During gameplay the camera zooms into Donkey Kong Jr. Time limit: 20s.
    • Stage 25-5: set in Stage 75m of Donkey Kong, Mario starts on the top platform in the area with the Fireball, and the objective is to get Pauline's purse. During gameplay the camera zooms into Mario. Time limit: 10s.

Bonus[]

The "Bonus" set includes 4 challenges based on Donkey Kong games, each one unlocked by obtaining a specific amount of stars:

NESR Bonus 04
  • Stage 4 (340 Stars): Set in Stage 75m from Donkey Kong, like in Stage 17 of the Bonus challenges the screen is completely mirrored, platforms are green and the player controls Luigi, while Mario takes Pauline's place. As the game starts, Mario's hat falls off and the objective is to get it. The player starts on the top floor while the cap falls straight below Mario. As it falls it's highlighted by an arrow, and once it reaches the ground it's highlighted by a circle. Notably, this is the first appearance of a hatless Mario in 8-bit graphics.
NESR Bonus 05
  • Stage 5 (350 Stars): A bonus NES game challenge based on Donkey Kong 3, it's divided in 3 sections. The first two sections are set in Round 1 of the game, while the third one is set in Round 2. The objective in the first section is to get 500 points by spraying bugs, while in the later two sections the objective is to push Donkey Kong, initially highlighted by a circle, to the top using the spray and the player starts with the spray upgrade.
NESR Bonus 08
  • Stage 8 (380 Stars): A "remixed" challenge based on Donkey Kong 3, it's set in Round 1 of the game and the objective is to defeat all bugs, but Stanley has the upgraded bugspray and it never goes off. The player loses a life if Donkey Kong is pushed to the top, beating the level.

  • Stage 19 (490 Stars): Set in Stage 25m of Donkey Kong, Mario starts at the top floor and the objective is to reach the start point.
