The series is composite of four video games:

  • Joe & Mac: Tatakae Genshijin (December 31, 1991), Arcade. Also released for DOS, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, Super Famicom/SNES, Famicom/NES, Game Boy and Amiga, with each version changed depending on the console's capabilities and style of play. The arcade version is called Caveman Ninja outside Japan, while console versions are called Joe & Mac in America and Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja in Europe.
  • Tatakae Genshijin 2: Rookie no Bōken (December 18, 1992), Super Famicom/SNES. Known as Congo's Caper outside Japan.
  • Tatakae Genshijin 3: Shuyaku wa yappari Joe & Mac (February 18, 1994), Super Famicom/SNES. Known as Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics in America and Joe & Mac 3: Lost in the Tropics in Europe.
  • Joe & Mac Returns (1994), Arcade. Very different from the prevous games, it uses gameplay from TumblePop.

Also an HD remake of the original game is currenty in development.

Since the second game is not titled "Joe & Mac" and has a very different gameplay as well as different characters and premise, is often not considered part of the "Joe & Mac" series, but it is an actual part of the "Tatakae Genshijin" series and it's also implied as the second Joe & Mac game in the european title of the third game.

Technically speaking, the fourth game might not be considered part of the "Tatakae Genshijin" series, not being called "Tatakae Genshijin", but to avoid useless confusion, we consider this a single series composed of each game titled "Joe & Mac" and each game titled "Tatakae Genshijin".
