Publications

Comics

Thousands of Mickey Mouse comic stories were published around the world over the years. Following is an exhaustive overview on all of Mickey Mouse's comic publications. Many of them were often reprinted in various countries in various formats, but we only list the original release of each story, ignoring reprints.
(stories are American when not noted otherwise)

main comics

  • Daily comic strips (January 13, 1930 - July 29, 1995): The first Mickey Mouse comics were published in the form of comic strips on North American daily newspapers. Stories are divided in arcs, though one-page stories would start being published between story arcs at some point. Publication of original stories stopped in 1995, and after that only old stories were reprinted on newspapers. Notable story arcs are:
    • Lost on a Desert Island (January 13, 1930 - March 31, 1930): the first story arc, and first Mickey Mouse comic story in general, it also included a comic adaptation of the short Plane Crazy. Among its many reprints is notable the Italian Topolino e i cannibali (March 15, 1934), which added an original strip to correct a continuity error.
    • Pluto the Pup (July 8, 1931 - July 18, 1931): a story arc telling how Mickey first met Pluto.
    • The Mail Pilot (February 27, 1933 - June 10, 1933): based on the animated short of the same name.
    • Mickey Mouse and Bobo the Elephant (July 30, 1934 - October 13, 1934): an arc introducing Mickey's Elephant.
    • The Plumber's Helper (July 2, 1938 - December 10, 1938): featuring the first appearance of Detective Casey, that later became a recurring character in the series.
    • Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot (May 20, 1939 - September 9, 1939): introducing the Phantom Blot and Chief O'Hara, recurring characters in the series.
    • An Education for Thursday (January 15, 1940), collectively reprinted as Four Color Comic No.268 - Mickey Mouse's Surprise Visitor in March 1950.
    • Trailer Trouble (June 3, 1946 - June 15, 1946), a story based on the movie short of the same name.
    • The Man of Tomorrow (September 22, 1947 - December 27, 1947): introducing Eega Beeva, recurring character in the series.
    • Mickey Mouse & Friends (September 1, 1958 - March 17, 1962): series of comic strips without continuity between them, with various characters beside Mickey as protagonists (which would seldom happen in regular strips), mostly Pluto, Goofy, Minnie, Morty and Ferdie. Occasionally some minor recurring characters get to be the protagonist in a few strips. After the end of this arc, strips focusing on characters other than Mickey become more popular in the series.
  • Sunday pages (January 10, 1932 - April 21, 1991): Mickey Mouse comics were also published on sunday newspaper pages in North America starting in 1932, with stories independent from the daily strips, although it may happen after some years that a popular character initially from either the daily or sunday strips, would be used in the other series of strips. initially telling one-page stories without any continuity, the Sunday strips were then organazied in arcs, still independent from the daily ones; occasionally one-page stories would also be published between story arcs. Notable story arcs are:
    • Dan, the Dogcatcher (July 31, 1932 - August 28, 1932): the first story arc in Sunday comic pages.
    • Mickey's Nephews (September 18, 1932 - November 6, 1932): introducing Mickey's nephews Morty and Ferdie, that later became recurring characters in the series.
  • Mickey Mouse Annual (1930 - 1946): comic book published annually in United Kingdom for 13 years, it includes original Mickey Mouse short stories (1 or 2 pages).
  • Topolino on Il Popolo di Roma (April 16, 1931 - August 6, 1931): on 11 issues of the Italian newspaper Il Popolo di Roma, were published original Mickey Mouse one-page stories (Topolino being Mickey Mouse's Italian name).
  • Topolino (December 31, 1932 - April 9, 1949): first Italian weekly magazine dedicated to Mickey Mouse, it ran for 738 issues. It includes original one-page stories, initially both his as well as well as of original characters, but later only Mickey Mouse stories were included. Due to copyright problems, issues 3 to 6 only featured original characters' stories, including Mickey's replacement Topo Lino ("Lino the Mouse", rather than Topolino, "little mouse").
  • Mickey Mouse Magazine (November 1933 - September 1940): first American monthly Mickey Mouse magazine, it usually includes reprints of daily strips, but occasionally features original stories as well.

Improper spin-offs

Some Mickey Mouse characters occasionally had stories entitled to them, and while those that also had independent releases are considered actual spin-offs, some of them were only published on anthological magazines along with Mickey Mouse stories, therefore not properly separating from the main series. These could still be considered spin-offs story-wise, but for clarity we still count them as releases in the Mickey Mouse series. These series are:

  • Morty and Ferdie (1933): series of stories starring Mickey's nephews.
  • Clara Cluck (July 1943): series of stories starring the titular character.
  • Eega Beeva (March 17, 1951): series of stories starring the tutular man from the future.
  • Horace Horsecollar (1962): series of stories starring the titular horse.
  • Ellsworth (1964): series of stories starring Goofy's pet bird, this might be considered a spin-off of the Goofy series instead.
  • Peg-Leg Pete (1964): series of stories starring Mickey's enemy.

  • Shamrock Bones (1983): series of game-stories starring the titular detective.
  • Indiana Pipps (1992): series of stories starring Goofy's adventurous cousin, known as Arizona Goof in english, this might be considered a spin-off of the Goofy series instead.
  • Chief O'Hara (1993): series of stories starring the Chief of Police of Mouseton.
  • Detective Casey (1996): series of stories starring the titular Mouseton detective. A spin

  • Pierino & Pieretto (1999): series of comic strips starring Pete's nephews.

  • Rock Sassi (2006): series of Italian stories starring the titular police officer, who's Detective Casey's sidekick, and therefore this could be considered a spin-off of the Detective Casey series.

Notes:
Being often used as Disney's logo, the silhouette of Mickey's face is not considered a reference to the Mickey Mouse series.

Background cameos in the House of Mouse series are only listed if no main appearance from the same series happened.

References to or in shorts shown within Mickey Mouse Works and House of Mouse are not listed here if they're not Mickey Mouse cartoons.

Characters from the Mickey Mouse series appear in emoji form in the game Disney Emoji Blitz, but that's considered non-fiction.

The italian Mickey Mouse story "Metopolis", published on Topolino #3189 in 2017, is a parody of the 1927 movie Metropolis, but since the movie is public domain in Italy, this parody doesn't count as a link.
