Monkey Island is a series of adventure games developed primarily by LucasArts.
The series focuses on the adventures of young aspiring pirate Guybrush Threepwood around various islands in the Caribbean, including the mystical titular location. In his journeys he meets and falls in love with Governor Elaine Marley, while constantly facing the evil Ghost/Zombie Pirate LeChuck.
Video Games[]
Five original games were released in the series and a sixth one was announced:
- The Secret of Monkey Island (October 1990) for MS-DOS, Amiga, Atari ST, and Classic Mac OS. An updated CD-ROM version was released in 1992 for MS-DOS, PC, FM Towns, and Sega CD. It received a remake:
- The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (July 15th, 2009) for iOS, PC, Xbox 360, and MacOS, also released in 2010 for PlayStation 3.
- Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (December 1st, 1991) for Amiga, FM Towns, MacOS, and MS-DOS. It received a remake:
- Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge: Special Edition (July 7th, 2010) for iOS, PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 (also playable on Xbox One).
- The Curse of Monkey Island (October 31st, 1997) for PC; also released in 2018 for MacOS.
- Escape from Monkey Island (November 8th, 2000) for PC, MacOS, and PlayStation 2
- Tales of Monkey Island (July 7th, 2009 - December 8th, 2009) for PC and Wii. Originally released digitally in five episodes, it was released as a full game in 2010 and ported to MacOS, PlayStation 3, and iOS.
- Return to Monkey Island (September 19th, 2022) for Nintendo Switch and PC. A sequel to Monkey Island 2 ignoring most of the plot of other sequels.
A few compilations were also released, including:
- Monkey Island Madness (December 1997) for PC. It includes the first two games and a playable demo of the third one.
- Monkey Island: Special Edition Collection (September 9th, 2011) for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Including both Special Editions of the first two games.
- Monkey Island 30th Anniversary Anthology (December 4th, 2020) for PC. A limited edition box including all of the first five games and the two Special Editions as well as various memorabilia.
