Note that Super Mario Bros. 7 doesn't actually exist.
Super Paper Mario[]

In Chapter 7-2, called "Underwhere Road", the player's characters meet three guardian doors called Dorguys, that ask several questions to them, to see if they're worth of passing.
Dorguy the Third asks the player to defeat a three headed Chain Chomp called Underchomp, a parody of Cerberus from Greek mythology. The fight with Underchomp takes place in a turn-based battle, referencing the classic turn-based RPGs, and it specifically resembles the style of play from Mother games.

Two of the unlockable costumes that Mario can wear in the game by using a Mystery Mushroom are based on Mother characters, specifically:
- Ness: an 8-bit design based on his recurring appearance, when worn it replaces the sound effects with sounds from Mother 2.
- Lucas: an 8-bit design based on his recurring appearance, when worn it replaces the sound effects with sounds from Mother 3.
Both costumes can alternatively be unlocked by using the respective amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series.
Two additional costumes were added through updates:
- Master Belch
- Mr. Saturn
