The Rope Snake item in the game is a snake that can be used as a whip to swing over gaps. Its name is believed by some to be based on the Rope enemy from the Zelda series, also considering that they look similar, though this might be a coincidence due to both being snakes.

The Whip item in the game is shaped like a snake, and can be used to swing over gaps. This time it's been officially confirmed to be based on the Rope Snake from Mother 3.
A Whip item returns in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword with a similar usage, but it's no longer shaped like a Snake.
