In the North American version of the game, in a scene in the ship's kitchen, Lotus criticizes Junpei, the game's protagonist, for being unable to identify an appetizer plate and its use. Junpei responds "Well excuuuuuuse me, princess!", which is Link's catchphrase from the Zelda TV show.

The creators of 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors held no right over Nintendo's Zelda, but they only included a minor reference to the series.
